Its lovely to see light coming in through the forest, it gives it a feeling of hope, even though forests can be a bit scary at times. I like your use of textures to create this atmosphere of the forest and also how you've created that sense of depth in it as well! Nice work!
The little fox cub steps out of the shadows and sniffs the air, ducking back into the deeper parts of the shadows. What strange smell is this he wonders, his belly growling as he whimpers “where are you mother?” It has been hours since she left this morning to find food for them with a promise she would return as quickly as she could but for him to stay in the shadows for they were in the forest. He had wonder what they were so he asks her as he yawns she was up before the sun whispering that they could not see well in the darkness.
His mother had turn back to look at him one last time she hesitated not wanting to answer him for she did not want him plague by bad dreams but this nightmare was all too real and he needed to know she lowers her head and her answer started with a deep growling in her belly as she spat out the word just one single word that seem to hang in the air before dropping to the ground like a dead thing “HUNTERS” with that she fled off into the dark meadow, before the sun even awaken.
A few more moments had pass and that smell the delicious smell was carried upon the wind towards the small fox cub hidden in the safety of the forest shadows but he was young and hungry ole so hunger and after all Hunters what could they possibly do to him? He was a fox slick and sly fast and clever surely he could out fox a hunter.
Slipping silently through the underbrush just as his mother had taught him the little fox made his way towards the smell that taunt him for so long his hunger growing more as he nears the edge of the clearing. Crouching down he sees 3 figures dark cloak in skins were these things the HUNTERS his mother had warn him about, surely they are not as clever as him mother surely not as clever as he was.
The small fox seem to drift in closer on the wind carried in towards the smell of something meaty, smoke rose upwards for these creature seem not to care that they were giving away their hiding place. The snapping and crackling of the fire when drippings from the thing roasting over its flames hit the fire, this snaps the small fox out of his hunger trance as he shakes his head and dives behind a stack of something. Ducking down low when one of the three creatures had look up his heart racing had it seen him? No for he was in the shadows, then the smells hit him all at once they came at him like wasp stinking his nose blood and a mixture of musk many, many different kinds of musk from many animals he look at the thing he was hiding behind it was a pile for furs, the little fox’s eyes grow bigger as he stared at the skins without their owners in them.
One, his heart cried one of them even smelt of his mother, then the sound of thunder roars out nearby his hide as dirt and pebbles kicks up into him making him yup out. “Fox” came the roars of the things by the fire as the other two, leap up grabbing sticks too. The little fox flatten himself even more but a voice from above him yells out “NO RUN” he looks up to see his mother white but it was her looking down at him “RUN SON NOW” he leaps up and races towards the forest and the shadows as more thunder roars out near his feet but he only sped up. They sound of his mother’s growls and the HUNTERS shouts all but drown out his thumping heart beat but he was afraid now and he did not want to disappoint his mother again. So he ran and ran as fast as he could, but he was just a little fox and soon their came howls of a strange beast through the forest behind him added with the shouts of the HUNTERS.
This sent a new wave of fear through the little fox he wanted his mother he wanted to go back to before they were here, but he could not go back somehow this he just knew would never be like before. Then the sound of rapid footsteps came closer to his right then the creature yips and his mother was there by his side racing with him “No don’t look back never look back always look forward towards safety” with that the little fox nods and looks forwards towards the river. The thunder roars out but this time it was over his head his mother pressing against his side as he ran. “Run along the fallen tree don’t look back and don’t worry about me I will join you soon” with that he leap up on the tree that laid above the river and move swiftly but carefully along its trunk he did not look back but could hear his mother fighting with whatever was back there chasing them both.
As soon as he reaches the end of the tree he leaps off into the mud but doesn’t take time to shake it off only leaps through it to reach hard ground once again then he races into the underbrush and runs on wards. The sounds of a huge splash and yells of the HUNTERS “Get Back” echoes out but do not seem to follow him deeper into the woods. As he starts to slow down his heart thumping wildly his hunger pains replace with heart pains his mother the others so many lost to them the HUNTERS.
Soon he was to tried to take another step laying down in a small spot of sun he whimpers then cries, but soon he felt a nose poking into his aching side “Shhh little one we are in a strange part of the forest now I do not know what lays hidden here” he looks up tears in his eyes “We do” with that he closes his eyes and falls asleep.
